Privacy policy

The Short Version

• • Your music files stay on your device. We never see them.
• • We don't have accounts, so we don't collect email addresses or personal information.
• • We use Apple's built-in analytics to understand crashes and basic usage patterns.
• • One optional feature (artwork lookup) sends artist and album names to a third-party service. You can turn it off.
• • If you connect Last.fm, your plays go to your own Last.fm account. That feature is off until you turn it on.
• • If you switch on online lyrics, a song's title, artist, album, and length go to a free lyrics catalog. That feature is off until you turn it on.

Your Music Library

BitDek stores your music files locally on your device. Your library data, including metadata, playlists, and play history, lives entirely on your iPhone or iPad. We have no servers that receive or store your music data.

Analytics

We use Apple's App Analytics, which is built into the App Store. This helps us understand how BitDek is used and identify issues that need fixing. Apple collects this data and shares aggregated, anonymized information with us. You can opt out of sharing analytics with developers in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

We do not use any third-party analytics services, crash reporters, or tracking SDKs.

TheAudioDB Integration

BitDek can automatically find missing album and artist artwork using TheAudioDB, a community-driven music database.

What gets shared: When this feature is enabled, BitDek sends artist names and album titles to TheAudioDB to search for matching artwork. That's it.

What doesn't get shared: No personal information, no listening history, no file metadata beyond what's needed to find artwork.

Your choice: This feature is enabled by default but you can turn it off anytime in Settings → Integrations. Any artwork already downloaded stays on your device. BitDek works the same either way.

Last.fm Integration

BitDek can send your listening history to your own Last.fm account, the practice Last.fm calls scrobbling. It stays off until you connect an account in Settings → Integrations.

Signing in: You sign in on Last.fm's own page, not inside BitDek. We never see your Last.fm password. Last.fm hands BitDek a key that lets it post plays to your account, and that key is stored in your device's Keychain.

What gets shared: While scrobbling is on, BitDek sends the details of each track that counts as a play: artist, title, album, album artist, track number, length, and the time you played it. Plays travel from your device straight to Last.fm. We run no server in between, and your listening history never reaches us.

Now playing: As each track starts, BitDek also tells Last.fm what is playing, which is what shows "Scrobbling now" on your profile. This happens for every track you start, including ones you skip before they count as a play. It sends artist, title, album, and length.

What doesn't get shared: Your music files, your library, and anything you play while scrobbling is off. Plays made with the feature switched off are never recorded and never sent later.

Listening offline: Plays made without a connection wait on your device and send the next time you're online. Anything still waiting after 14 days is discarded, because Last.fm won't accept it by then.

Your choice: Switch scrobbling off anytime and nothing further gets sent. Disconnecting your account goes further. It deletes the stored key and discards any plays still waiting to send. Whatever Last.fm already received lives on your Last.fm profile, where you can view or delete it.

Lyrics

BitDek shows the lyrics your own files already carry, either written into the track's tags or sitting beside it in an .lrc file. Reading them involves no network at all.

For tracks that carry none, BitDek can look them up in LRCLIB, a free community-run lyrics catalog. This stays off until you turn on Fetch Lyrics Online in Settings → Integrations.

What gets shared: A lookup sends the song title, artist name, album title, and track length. Nothing else. There is no account and no sign-in, so a lookup carries no identity with it. Requests travel from your device straight to LRCLIB. We run no server in between, and we never learn what you looked up.

What doesn't get shared: Your music files, your library, and anything about tracks that already have lyrics. Those are never looked up, because there is nothing to look up.

How often: A track is looked up once, while it plays, and the result is saved on your device for good. If the catalog has nothing, BitDek remembers that for 30 days before quietly asking again, since the catalog grows all the time.

Your choice: Switch Fetch Lyrics Online off anytime and no further lookups happen. Lyrics already saved to your device stay there, and lyrics your own files carry are never affected either way.

iCloud Sync

If you use iCloud Drive to import music into BitDek, that transfer happens directly between your device and Apple's iCloud service. We don't have access to your iCloud account or the files stored there.

Data We Don't Collect

To be clear about what BitDek doesn't do:

• • We don't track your location
• • We don't upload your contacts or photos (photo access is local-only, for custom artwork)
• • We don't sell data to third parties (we don't have any to sell)
• • We don't show ads

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to how BitDek handles your data, we'll update this page and note the date at the top. For major changes, we'll also include a notice in the app.
