Deleting music

You can pull out a single track, drop a whole album, or clear the library and start again.

All of it happens inside BitDek’s own copy of your music. The files you imported from are never touched, whatever you delete here.

Deleting a single track

Open the album that holds the track. Every track row has an ellipsis button on the right.

  1. Tap the ellipsis beside the track
  2. Choose Delete Track…
  3. Confirm

The track goes from your library and its audio file goes from the device. If the track was playing, playback moves on.

Deleting an album

Open the album, then use the ellipsis in the navigation bar at the top of the screen. That menu holds Replace Artwork, Edit Album, and Delete.

  1. Tap the ellipsis in the navigation bar
  2. Choose Delete…
  3. Confirm

Deleting an album removes every track inside it along with its artwork. BitDek names the album in the confirmation so you can be certain you have the right one.

Deleting a playlist

Playlists delete from their own row menu or from inside the playlist, using Delete Playlist…. Removing a playlist never removes music. The tracks stay in your library and only the list goes.

Genres work the same way. Delete Genre… in the Genres screen removes the genre without touching the albums that carried it.

Clearing your whole library

Settings has a Storage section with two bulk actions. Both are permanent and neither can be undone.

Delete All Music

This clears the library completely. Every track, album, artist, and piece of artwork goes, and the audio files come off the device.

Two things survive on purpose:

  • Your playlists stay, emptied. Nothing about a playlist is lost except its contents, so the names and the smart rules are waiting when music comes back. Import again and a smart playlist starts refilling itself.
  • Your genres stay, if you want them. The confirmation offers an Also delete all genres checkbox, ticked by default. Untick it to keep genres you built or merged by hand.

Delete All Playlists

The mirror image. Every playlist and every smart rule goes, and your music library is untouched.

Useful when playlists have accumulated past the point of being worth pruning individually and the collection itself is fine.

Typing DELETE

Both bulk actions open a confirmation sheet that tells you what will go and how many items it counts. Neither proceeds until you type DELETE into the field.

Capitalization does not matter. The count does, so read it before you type. A number that looks wrong usually means you opened the wrong action.

Your source files are safe

Nothing on this page reaches outside BitDek.

BitDek copies music into its own storage at import, and everything you delete here comes out of that copy. Your originals on a computer, an external drive, or in iCloud Drive are exactly as you left them. Re-import any time. See Where your music lives for how the copy works.

The reverse holds too. Deleting a file from the Files app after you imported it does not remove it from BitDek.

Starting over cleanly

If an import went badly and you want a clean run, Delete All Music is the fastest route back to empty. Leave the genre checkbox ticked to clear everything, then import again.
