Creating and ordering playlists
Playlists in BitDek work the way you’d hope: build them by hand, fill them with rules, or mix both in the same playlist. This guide covers the by-hand side. For rules, see Smart Rules.
Creating a playlist
Section titled “Creating a playlist”Tap the + button at the top of the Playlists screen. Name it and you’re done. Names need to be unique, and that’s the only rule.
You can also create one mid-flow: the Add to Playlist screen has a Create New Playlist option at the top, so a new idea never has to wait.
Adding music
Section titled “Adding music”Add to Playlist… appears almost everywhere your music does:
- Tap the … button on any track in your library, an album, the queue, or search results.
- The ⋯ menu on the Now Playing screen adds the current track.
- The + menu on an album screen adds the whole album.
- The + menu on an artist screen adds everything you have by them.
The selector lets you pick several playlists at once. Tracks already in a playlist are skipped, never duplicated.
Ordering: By hand or by sort
Section titled “Ordering: By hand or by sort”Every playlist has one order, and you control it two ways.
Drag it. Grab any track and move it. Dragging switches the playlist to Manual order, and it stays exactly how you arranged it.
Sort it. The sort menu in the playlist header offers Manual, Artist, Album, Release Date, and Random. Tap the active option again to reverse direction. Tap Random again for a fresh shuffle.
One thing worth knowing: applying a sort rewrites the playlist’s order. Your manual arrangement is replaced, not hidden underneath. If you’ve spent time hand-crafting a sequence, stay in Manual.
New tracks respect whatever mode is active. In a sorted playlist they slot into position. In Manual they land at the end, ready for you to place.
Playlist artwork
Section titled “Playlist artwork”Artwork takes care of itself. A playlist drawn from one album wears that album’s cover. Pull from several albums and BitDek builds a two-by-two grid from up to four of them. An empty playlist gets a placeholder until you give it something to show.
Managing playlists
Section titled “Managing playlists”The ⋯ menu on a playlist offers Rename Playlist… and Delete Playlist…. Deleting asks first, and it only removes the playlist. Your music stays in your library, always.
The playlist header gives you Play, Shuffle, a heart to favorite the playlist, the sort menu, and a + menu with Add to Queue and Add Next for feeding the queue.
The Playlists screen itself sorts by Date Modified, Name, Track Count, or Duration, and filters by favorites, genre, and release date.
Removing tracks
Section titled “Removing tracks”Swipe left on a track and tap Remove from Playlist, or use the track’s menu. The track leaves the playlist and nothing else. It stays in your library, your albums, and your other playlists.
If a smart rule added the track, removing it also tells the rules not to add it back.
