The equalizer

BitDek includes a 10-band parametric equalizer. It ships off by default, and off means truly off. Your audio passes through untouched, which keeps lossless playback lossless. Turn it on when you want it. Skip it when you don’t.

In the full player, tap the equalizer button in the bottom row of controls, just after the AirPlay button. It’s the icon with three vertical sliders. When the equalizer is active, the icon is highlighted so you always know it’s working.

Turning it on and off

The on/off toggle sits at the top of the Equalizer sheet, next to the close button. When the equalizer is off, the controls dim and stop responding.

Switching on or off is instant and glitch-free. There’s no gap or click in playback.

The bands

Ten fixed bands cover the audible range: 31, 62, 125, 250, and 500 Hz, then 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k, and 16k. Each band adjusts up or down 12 dB.

Drag a band’s thumb to set it. The dB value appears while you drag, and a light haptic tap marks the 0 dB point on the way past.

Reset All to Flat zeroes every band and the Headroom trim in one tap.

Headroom

Boost a few bands and the loudest peaks in your music can push past the limit and clip. The Headroom control trims the overall level to prevent that, from 0 down to −30 dB. It only cuts, never boosts.

• Auto is the default. BitDek calculates the trim from your band settings, so your boosts never clip. Set it and forget it.
• Manual puts the trim in your hands.

Presets

BitDek ships with no factory presets, and that’s deliberate. A “Rock” preset is a guess about your ears and your headphones. You can do better.

Build your own instead:

1. Dial in a curve you like.
2. Open the ⋯ menu and choose Create New Preset….
3. Name it and save. Names must be unique.

Load presets from the Preset picker. A checkmark marks the one that’s loaded. Save Changes overwrites the loaded preset with your current settings. Rename Preset… gives it a new name, and Delete Preset… removes it, with a confirmation first.

The equalizer and Audio Quality

The equalizer is a global setting. One curve applies to everything you play, and your settings, presets, and on/off state all persist across launches.

When it’s on, BitDek processes audio at the source sample rate in 32-bit float. No resampling. The Audio Quality sheet shows a PROCESSING step with an Enhanced badge whenever the equalizer is engaged, so the signal path always tells the truth.

When it’s off, playback is bit-identical to having no equalizer at all.
