The play queue

The queue is the list of what’s playing now and what plays next. You build it, you reorder it, you clear it. No algorithm adds anything you didn’t choose.

When a queue is active, a dedicated Queue tab appears in the tab bar. When the queue is empty, the tab disappears until you start something new.

Adding music to the queue

Two actions appear together throughout BitDek:

• Add to Queue adds tracks to the end of the queue.
• Add Next inserts tracks immediately after the current track.

Neither one interrupts what’s playing.

You’ll find both actions in these places:

• Whole albums, artists, and playlists: tap the + button on their screens. In the album crate view, the + sits below each card.
• Individual tracks: tap the … button on any track row, in your library, a playlist, or search results. Both actions live there alongside the other track actions.
• Playlists in your Playlists list have a … menu too, so you can queue one without opening it.

If nothing is queued yet, both actions simply start playing.

Playing vs. adding

Tapping a track, album, or playlist to play it replaces the queue. The Add actions preserve it. Building a listening session? Use Add to Queue. Ready for something else entirely? Just tap play.

Viewing the queue

Open the queue two ways:

• The Queue tab in the tab bar.
• The queue button in the full player, which opens the queue as a sheet.

The queue is one continuous list. Tracks you’ve already played are dimmed. The current track is highlighted, and everything still to come sits below it. The list scrolls to the current track automatically when you open it.

Tap any track in the queue to jump straight to it.

Reordering the queue

Every row has a drag handle. Drag tracks into whatever order you want. Reordering never interrupts playback.

One note if shuffle is on: you’re reordering the shuffled order. Turn shuffle off and the queue returns to its original order.

Track actions in the queue

Tap the … button on any queued track for:

• Play Next moves it to the spot right after the current track. It’s a move, not a copy.
• Track Info shows the track’s details.
• Favorite marks it as a favorite.
• Add to Playlist… adds it to a playlist.
• Remove from Queue takes it out.

You can also swipe left on a row and tap Remove. Removing the current track skips ahead to the next one.

Ejecting the queue

Done listening? The eject button at the top of the queue clears everything and stops playback in one tap. From the Queue tab, it returns you to your Library. From the queue sheet, it closes the player too.

When the queue ends

With repeat off, finishing the last track works exactly like pressing eject. Playback stops, the queue clears, and the player closes.

BitDek never keeps playing into the rest of your library. When your queue ends, the music ends. What plays next is always your call.

Shuffle and repeat

The repeat button cycles through three modes: off, repeat queue, and repeat track.

Shuffle only shuffles the upcoming tracks. The current track and everything you’ve already played stay put. Turn shuffle off and the original order comes back.

Combine repeat queue with shuffle and each pass through the queue gets a fresh shuffle.

One more detail worth knowing: pressing previous restarts the current track if it’s been playing more than a few seconds. Press it again right away to go back a track.

Your queue survives a restart

BitDek saves your queue when the app goes to the background. Next launch, everything comes back paused, right where you left off, position included. A saved queue older than 7 days is discarded so you start fresh.
